1.5 Lying was my last ditch option...

Lying was my last ditch option. “Listen, you recently died, and I really wanted to practice my skills. I’m not trying to make you do anything you don't want. I will have no control over you once you're back in the body. I just wanted to see if I could do it. I figured it would just also give you a chance to finish up any bucket list stuff.”

When I finished talking, he didn’t respond. He just stared at me. Thankfully, I’ve been told I have a trusting face. Poor guy. But I could at least keep his family away. His sister hired me, but I could find out what she wanted to know without putting this man through any more heartache. His somber eyes continued to drive a dagger into mine. They really were a lovely shade of green. Staring quickly down at his body, I thought they really would complete the handsome package laying before me.

“Eyes up here,” he piped up. “I’m not a meat popsicle; well… maybe I am.” Funny and good looking. At least he wouldn’t be dull to keep around for a few days.

“So, what’ll it be? Would you like to come back?”

“You promise I won’t have to deal with my family, especially my wife. I thought dying meant I was done with that forever.”

“You have my word.” Sorry it didn’t really mean much to anyone who knew me. Necromancers aren’t known for being honest, decent folk afterall. Not sure why I was expected to be any different. Thankfully, this guy didn’t know me from the next stranger.

“Ok, but you are responsible for carrying out my full after death list,” and at that he hovered over his decaying corpse and slowly floated down until he was immersed within it.”

“What exactly… you know never mind. Let’s get this show on the road.”

“Spirit, soul of Daniel Ouster, I bind you to this vessel. I bind you to this vessel. I bind you to this vessel.” My power looked simple from the outside, but inside I was merging Daniel’s soul to his deceased body. I could feel every particle of the host and spirit separately, and I had to tie them together. Some believe what necromancers do was magick, but I’ve known a lot of witches and none of them have ever described spell performance in this manner. For a moment, it’s like I was a bridge, and I slowly pulled the two land masses on the opposing sides of the river together. I started out between the two, but slowly I’m knocked away as the separate parts are mashed into a whole being. In the end, I was the sliver of glue keeping them locked, but this too would eventually fail and they would come unstuck.

After what felt like weeks, because binding always took everything out of me, I could see the body lying in front of me begin to twitch. This was immediately followed by a violent thrashing motion.

Quickly, I reached for my pager and sent an emergency message to Rainey to get her ass back in here. I had tied the two elements together, but the host body doesn’t always have a good response to be reawakened. It’s been stiff and cold for days, and the brain might not be responding to the jolt of life it has been given. Since my medium abilities don't translate to mind reading, my ability to communicate with the ghost is impaired once it becomes one with the body. Hence, my need for Rainey.
